The Men Of Praise Quartet began their ministry on New Years Eve of 1990 at Glen Hope Baptist Church of Burlington, NC at the invitation of another quartet that was appearing there. Now, as they continue in their sixteenth year the desires and motivations of the group have remained the same; to present the gospel, be encouragers in faith, and be good stewards of all that God has so graciously given to them. And to have a ministry which is an overflow of the lives of men who have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a burning desire to do His will, as well as who have a heritage rich in spiritual values and a love for southern gospel music.

When George Crouse (the founder of the quartet) first met with Herman Gruber (keyboard player, arranger and coach) they began discussing the call that God had placed on each of their hearts to form a quartet. At that time they made a commitment to their Lord to be faithful in presenting the gospel in both word and song and to seek to magnify Him. Eventually Wiley Oakley, Bob Mangum, George Crouse, and Herman Gruber assembled around the kitchen table at Herman's house and the "Men of Praise Quartet" as we know it today was born in prayer.

In 1994 they made their first recording, Since then they have produced numerous recordings, which are available on cassette and/or CD.

In 1996 God provided the group with adequate transportation in order to further their ministry.

The quartet had other musicians come and go who accompanied along with Herman for periods of time but in 1998 they were able to include sound tracks in their presentation.

In 2000 they won the Extra Mile award for faithfulness to the Alamance County Gospel Music Association.

Today, in 2009, George Crouse (tenor and lead), Maurice Stancil (lead and tenor), Wiley Oakley (baritone), Bob Mangum (bass) and Herman Gruber (keyboardist, arranger and coach) all are faithful in the original commitment and continue in the ministry that began many years ago. They believe that ahead of them are the greatest opportunities ever to minister.

"We can only say that God has given us a ministry and provided opportunities to continue the ministry He has given us. We continue to be amazed at what God has done. We believe that the greatest days for the "Men of Praise Quartet" are yet to come. It is (still) our desire that the ministry of the Men Of Praise Quartet" will bless you."
